Triiodythyronine (T3) is one of two thyroid hormones produced by the thyroid glands. Rasied levels of FT3 indicate an overactive thyroid.

This test is recommended for those who have symptoms of an over- or under-active thyroid; want to complete their complete thyroid testing by assessing their FT3, or are being treated with liothyronine (T3) and want to monitor their levels. This test is best used in conjuctions with Free Thyroxine (FT4) and thyroid stimulating hormone (TSH).
Free triiodothyronine, or Free T3, is used to assess thyroid function and can either be used to diagnose hyperthyroidism or monitor treatment of a person with a known thyroid disorder.
