This is a simple finger-prick test to determine thyroxine (T4) the main hormone produced by the thyroid gland.
Number of Test Involved: 1
This test is recommended for women who may think they have an under- or over-active thyroid, or have already completed a Thyroid Stimulating Hormone (TSH) test which was borderline. This test is best used in conjunction with T3 and TSH tests.
Free thyroxine helps to evaluate thyroid function and diagnose thyroid diseases, including hypo- and hyper-thyroidism. Free T4 is not affected by protein levels and is the active form of thyroxine.
