If the calcium result is abnormal, a corrected calcium calculation is carried out to aid further investigation.Around half of the total calcium in your blood is bound by albumin. Corrected calcium estimates your calcium level assuming albumin is a specified normal value.
Poor bone health can cause conditions such as rickets and osteoporosis and increase the risk of breaking a bone from a fall later in life.
Most people should be able to get all the nutrients they need for healthy bones by eating a healthy balanced diet.
You should be 700mg of calcium a day through foods such as
- milk, cheese and other diary produces,
- green leaf vegetables (not spinach)
- Tofu or Soya
- Nuts
